Partial Embossing Card Tutorial (with Pictures)

Partial embossing is a great way to add value to your embossing folders by giving you one more way to use them in your projects. The process is simple, you place your card stock partially in your embossing folder and then run this through your die cutting machine (check your user manual for the right embossing platform combination/sandwich).

In today’s tutorial, Janette uses the Meadow Flowers gift included in Papercraft Essentials Issue 163 to create a partially embossed all-occassion card. To begin she embosses the top and bottom of her card front.

To do this, carefully place your card about  two inches into the embossing folder as shown below and run through your die cutting machine with your regular embossing sandwich/platforms:

Repeat on the top and bottom of your card front. The result gives you an embossed pattern that differs from the original design! So easy, right?

Once the embossing is complete, you can stamp the butterfly in the Meadow Flowers set with any ink of your choice. Janette uses Spring Heather Nuvo Hybrid Ink and stamps the image 3 times on a scrap piece of white card stock. She then adds a little sparkle to each butterfly with Spectrum Noir Sparkle Brush Markers.

Once the sparkly ink is dry, fussy cut the butterfly images with some scissors:

To give your butterflies dimension, put a little curl into the wings with either a paper-shaping tool, pencil, or a pokey tool:

Next stamp the “Thinking of You” sentiment with Spanish Sangria Nuvo Hybrid Ink as shown:

Mount your card front to a card base, leaving a border to accentuate your embossing.

Mount your dimensional butterflies with a small piece of foam tape:

Embellish with coloured pearls (optional) to complete your card. Use liquid adhesive if your pearls aren’t self-adhesive:
