3 WAYS WITH ONE DIE!

Watch Justine's great demonstration showing how you can achieve 3 different looks with just one die using various elements from the new Winter Wonders collection.

In this video Justine starts by looking at how the Winter Wonders Die Set 'A Glimpse of Winter' is intended to be used. You can create a stunning snowy scene by combining the rectangle die and the background die. It's best to keep these as separate pieces so you can choose whether to place them directly on your card base, or card panel, or even create your own custom background. The flexibility is key. Secure them together with masking tape and run them through your die-cutting machine.

Once you've die-cut the elements, you'll notice the intricately embossed trees within the large piece. Now, the fun begins! You can ink-blend these trees using different shades of ink. Just pick a medium blue, dark purple, and dark blue to create a beautiful, gradated sky. Start with the medium blue, gradually transition to purple, and finish with the darkest blue, focusing on the edges for a dramatic effect.

Don't forget to add some water droplets for a snowy appearance. You can cut out snow from white cardstock to enhance the wintry scene. Alternatively, you could die-cut the background after ink-blending to create both an ink-blended sky and a white snowy background, providing you with a two-for-one card. Add a border die to complete the look.

In this next technique, Justine is exploring the use of the Winter Wonders embossing folder to add a snowy texture to your card. Using a white pigment ink, gently rub it over the embossed snow to give it an extra snowy effect. Ensure your background is completely dry before doing this to prevent any colour contamination.

Now, cut out the snow-covered scene using the rectangle die and add it to your card. The embossed snowflakes combined with ink blending will create a stunning, textured winter backdrop. This technique allows you to easily hide any ink-blending imperfections, making it an excellent choice for crafters of all skill levels.

Hot foiling is a fantastic way to add a touch of luxury to your projects. To get started, turn on your hot foil machine and let it heat up. Place your hot foil plate face up, add your foil with the shiny side down, and use the provided sandwich. Run it through your die-cutting machine slowly.

Tips for getting a great finish when Hot Foiling

If you encounter issues with the foil adhering properly, consider adding a thin shim to your sandwich, ensuring it's compatible with your die-cutting machine. This can improve the foiling result. However, be cautious not to make your sandwich too thick, as it can lead to over-foiling. Over-foiling can be fixed with sandpaper or an eraser. After foiling, you can create multiple foiled panels in various colours for future projects.

For the final technique, we'll cut the snow banks and deer separately to create a distinct winter scene. Trim down the snow bank and trees and cut away excess parts of the deer and trees, leaving the legs partially obscured by the snow banks for a natural look. The goal is to add dimension and variety to your scene.

You can then fiddle with the placement of the animals and trees to create a dynamic, non-linear composition. To complete the card, stamp directly onto the foam for a personalized touch.

The Winter Wonders Collection by Justine Hovey opens up a world of creative opportunities for crafting winter scenes. Whether you prefer die-cutting, ink-blending, embossing, or hot foiling, this versatile set has got you covered. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
