Have you been making these stamping mistakes?

Whether you're a beginner or not, these techniques can be helpful every single time you stamp. Lou will show you why each one is important and how it can improve your stamping results!

Forgetting to prep your stamp:

When you first get a new stamp it's fresh out of the packaging and has a manufacturing coating on it. This coating can sometimes cause your images to look blurry or have missed areas. To remove the coating and ensure a perfect impression the first time you use your stamp, take an eraser or use your fingers to rub over all of the detail of the stamp. This gives the stamp a nice matte surface for the ink to grip onto.

Not using a stamping platform:

If you're serious about stamping, it might be worth investing in a stamping platform. Find our range of stamping platforms here! While acrylic blocks were a wonderful tool and are still used by many, a stamping platform can offer greater precision, especially if you're trying to apply even pressure or reposition a stamp in the same place again.

Stamping multiple images at once:

If you want to stamp more than one image at a time, make sure to use stamps from the same brand. Different brands may have different depths, which can lead to uneven stamping.

Using the wrong type of ink:

The type of ink you choose depends on the effect you want to achieve. For detailed images, consider using a dye or pigment ink. Distress inks, while popular, may not give clear images when stamped, but are great for ink blending.

Choosing the wrong type of paper:

The type of paper or cardstock you're stamping onto can affect the final result. Textured papers like watercolor cardstock may lead to missed spots due to lumps and bumps. Smooth cardstock, on the other hand, can result in clearer images.

Not letting your ink dry:

After stamping, ensure your ink dries before cutting or coloring to avoid smudging the image.

Remember, practice makes perfect. So, keep experimenting with different inks and techniques until you find what works best for you. Happy stamping!
