One-Layer Card Creation with Stencil and Stamping

Lou's card-making techniques tutorial starts by applying a blend of ink colours (Salvage patina, Rusty hinge, and Gathered twigs) using the stencil. This creates a beautiful, blended effect that forms the backdrop for the large butterfly image which will be stamped on top.

After wiping off any excess ink, Lou then uses a stamping platform to overlay a large butterfly image onto the coloured background. The result is a stunning card that looks complex but is surprisingly easy to create.

Prepping New Stamps - A Key Card-Making Technique

Next, Lou delves into the essential process of prepping new stamps, a technique often overlooked in card-making tutorials. She explains how the manufacturing coating on a new stamp can affect the way the ink holds for the first few impressions. To combat this, she suggests using a pencil eraser to brush away the coating.

Lou then demonstrates the use of the prepped stamp with ink and a stamping platform. For a different effect, she mentions the option of using embossing ink and gold embossing powder.

Adding Dimension to the Card

To add more dimension to the card, Lou shows a technique to create a watercolor splatter effect around the stamped image. She then chooses a sentiment stamp, positions it on the card, and preps it before use.

Lou adds some paint speckles to cover up a little mistake!

This stencil and stamping tutorial by Lou Collins not only teaches us about creating a beautiful one-layer card but also embraces mistakes and turns them into creative opportunities. It's a wonderful lesson for all crafters out there!
