An Introduction to the Spotlight Resist Technique

Hello crafters! Today we're going over something new - the Spotlight Resist Technique. This method helps you get more out of your stamps and outline dies, bringing depth to your projects. Scroll to the end of this post to watch the full SPOTLIGHT RESIST VIDEO TUTORIAL

What is the Spotlight Resist Technique?

This technique combines spotlighting and emboss resist. Spotlighting highlights part of an image, making it more interesting. Emboss resist creates a glossy layer that resists ink, keeping your spotlighted area clean.

We're using the Snowflake Stories collection from Sheena Crafts in this guide. We currently have an amazing bundle offer exclusively for our CraftStash VIP's on this collection which you can find here - Sheena's Snowflake Stories VIP BUNDLE OFFER. But remember, you can use the Spotlight Resist Technique with any matching stamps and dies.

How to Use the Spotlight Resist Technique

First, stamp the snowflake image on white cardstock with waterproof Memento ink. Dry the image with a heat tool. Then, use the waste from the outline die cut.

Apply some stencil glue on the reverse side of the waste and align it with the stamped image.

Next, apply clear embossing ink with a brush, remove the stencil, and add clear powder to the inked area. Heat set your clear embossing powder to create a clear glaze. This layer will resist the ink in the next step.

For the inking, choose your preferred colors. We're using salty ocean and wilted violet inks for this guide.

Blend the ink halfway up, then switch to a wilted violet shade from the top down. To add texture, spritz water droplets over the background. The snowflake will resist any water-based stamping.

Finally, remove any excess and buff away the snowflake ink. Use foam to mount the piece onto a card base.

Finishing Your Spotlight Resist Project

Spotlight Resist Technique

We used the Nature's Winter stamp set for this project. To finish, consider adding vellum with a sentiment from the same set. A few sparkles would also add a nice touch.

The Spotlight Resist Technique is simple, quick, and fun. It's a fresh take on traditional stamping techniques.
